In 1929 General MacCready of the U.S. Army asks Ray-Ban to develop a new type of sunglasses, capable to protect pilots from the intense glare of high altitudes, while guaranteeing a clear vision. Ray-Ban sunglasses, known then as Anti-Glare glasses, are introduced to the general public in 1936.### The first model is a plastic frame with the "aviator" shape. The name is changed from Anti-Glare to Ray-Ban in 1937, the trademark is registered and first appears in an advertisement in May same year. In 1952 the Wayfarer style is launched. Thanks to their simple, clean design and their comfortable fit, thee Wayfarers become instant classics and gain immediate visibility in the movie scene. In 1961; by now a market leader, Ray-Ban begins a long-lasting collaboration with Hollywood, obtaining the first important placement in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" with Audrey Hepburn wearing the Wayfarer style.
